E-cigarettes – a fallacious alternative

On May 31, 2025, we celebrate World No Tobacco Day. This year, we are focusing especially on e-cigarettes, which are often presented as an alternative to traditional tobacco products. But is it really a good alternative?

Why Are E-cigarettes Dangerous?

An e-cigarette is an electronic device that delivers nicotine to the body through inhalation. They often come in appealing flavors – from strawberry to cinnamon – but behind the taste hides something far less pleasant: carcinogenic compounds, heavy metals, and substances that irritate the lungs.

Worse still, e-cigarettes are just as addictive as traditional cigarettes. They contain nicotine, which:

  • disrupts brain development (especially up to age 25),
  • impairs memory, concentration, and emotions,
  • increases the risk of insomnia, irritability, and learning difficulties.

E-cigarettes Are Not a Trend!

Fortunately, contrary to popular myths, most children and teenagers do NOT use e-cigarettes. It’s not a trend – it’s a marketing trap. Tobacco companies profit massively from your health, and influencers promoting these products often act solely in their own financial interest.

Did you know that:

  • illegal e-cigarettes can lead to poisoning or even device explosions?
  • one dose of liquid can contain as much nicotine as an entire pack of cigarettes?

How Much Do E-cigarettes Cost? More Than You Think.

Using e-cigarettes is not only a health risk – it’s also a significant expense. Buying the device is a one-time cost. However, regular use requires purchasing the so-called “liquid”:

  • monthly: 80 to 250 PLN,
  • annually: 1,000 to even 3,000 PLN!

What could you have instead?

  • Cooking courses, sports classes, art workshops.
  • A new bike, tech gadgets, vacation trips.
  • More energy, better health, and real memories.

How to Say “No”?

It turns out that when we are encouraged to do something and we refuse, the negative reaction from the other side is usually only temporary. In the long run, people start to appreciate discipline and sticking to one’s principles. Be brave! Saying “no” is not difficult – just have patience and withstand the first attempts of persuasion.

Choose Freedom Instead of Addiction!

Nicotine addiction limits your freedom. Instead of living life to the fullest, you become a slave to the urge to “take a puff.” Make a smart choice – say NO to e-cigarettes and be proud of taking care of yourself.

Parents!

Do not treat your child as the enemy. Face the problem together. This is the best advice because the most important thing is that your child understands and wants to choose freedom for themselves.
